I especially like that last poem. My relationship with my 19 yo daughter is strained and lately I have been struggling with regrets about how I may or may not have contributed to the problem or failed or disappointed her in the past. I have confessed to her that while I am not perfect (who is?) I love her and ask forgiveness for those things I have done that have hurt her in any way. I don’t sense any reciprocation on her part to meet me halfway, either with forgiveness or apologies. But I am reminded in Philippians 3 that, having confessed my failings and past sin to God, He has forgiven me and “forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Phil 3:12-14). Meanwhile I pray for her and leave her in God’s hands.
